I purchased this camera a few months ago and have used it in a variety of settings. I don't have any complaints about this camera at all. I've had others to admire my camera as well. This was my first digital camera and I am glad that I made this my camera of choice. The video is clear and the pictures are too. Oh! The pictures are so clear and crisp; it really takes nice pictures. I also love the fact that I don't have to buy batteries over and over..it comes with a rechargeable battery. I highly recommend this camera!!!!

Great Camera5
I finally upgraded from a Canon 2MP Powershot. The photo quality, use & battery life couldn't be better for my use. Very happy!

Useful and inexpensive4
This was a useful, inexpensive add-on. The memory storage wallet was not up to snuff, but everything else works well enough. The mini tripod works better than expected, but we have already upgraded that anyway. The difficulty with the tripod is setting it to level. Still, overall a good purchase.

The camera case is good for my Canon and when I purchased a larger case (this one does not have enough room to carry the battery charger and some other essentials), I use this case as extra padding inside the larger case I bought, so it didn't go to waste at all. The case is well made and easy to access.

Tiny tripod but great overqall value.5
The tripod is only about 8 inches tall, so you'll need a table and that isn't clear on the description. However, the entire package was a good buy. It arrived quickly and everything was intact. Very good experience!

Great value!5
I just ordered this item for a Canon Powershot 590IS and received it within 3 days (seller is CAMETA CAMERA, which I rate EXCELLENT for prompt service). It's exactly as shown, but the carrying case has been zoomed in on picture. The case is an actual Canon carrying case. The batteries come with universal charger and it looks good. I haven't

Manufacturer Description

Capture smiles as they happen. The 7.2-megapixel Cyber-shot W120 features innovative Smile Shutter technology which photographs smiles as they happen. Built to impress, this model boasts a Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens for high quality close-ups and Sony's Double Anti-Blur solution for crisp, clear images. For speedy recovery, the BIONZ image processor gets you ready for the next shot. In addition, it has Face Detection technology that detects up to eight faces and optimizes focus, exposure, and color for accurate, natural photos of family and friends.

7.2-megapixel Super HAD CCD More megapixels give you more detail and definition when you make big prints or crop in tight on your subject. The advanced Sony Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens 4x optical zoom brings distant subjects closer to help you capture sharp, detailed long shots and quickly frame images for better composition -- great for family sports, outdoor fun, and travel photos.

Sony DSC-W120 digital camera features and highlights

2.5-inch TFT LCD display The large, bright 2.5-inch TFT LCD (115K) display makes it easy to compose shots, check results, and read menus in sharp natural color, even in bright sunlight.

Face Detection Face Detection technology automatically controls flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to help reveal faces in shadows, make skin tones look more natural, reduce red-eye, and eliminate harsh facial glare. Now with adult or child priority so you can determine who the focal point should be.

Sony DSC-W120 digital camera features and highlights
Smile Shutter captures beautiful smiles for a lifetime.
Smile Shutter mode Smile Shutter technology captures smiles the moment they happen - without the need to press the shutter. The mode can be set to capture when your subject laughs, smiles or even grins, and like Face Detection is able to differentiate children and adults to set priority.

Sony Double Anti-Blur Solution The combination of Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and high ISO sensitivity helps compensate for shaky hands, minimizes blur, and allow flash-free shooting to preserve the mood.

Sony DSC-W120 digital camera features and highlights
Super SteadyShot in action.
Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilization Compensates for shaky hands and minimizes blur with a built-in gyro sensor that detects camera movement and sends correcting signals to a stabilization lens -- so there's no need to crop in on your shot to reduce blur.

High Sensitivity (ISO 3200) mode With high sensitivity of ISO 3200, you can shoot effectively in low light without flash to preserve the mood, while the Sony Clear RAW Noise Reduction system helps suppress the color noise that can degrade low-light shots.

Dynamic Range Optimization standard Powered by the exclusive Sony Bionz high-speed processing engine, Dynamic Range Optimization preserves image data in bright highlights and reveals more detail in shadows or backlit areas -- for great results even in difficult lighting conditions.

Convenient Photo modes To adjust quickly for specific shooting situations, you can choose from several convenient photo modes, including Auto, Program Auto, and Scene Selections such as Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Fireworks, Smile Shutter, Landscape, Soft Snap, Snow, High Sensitivity, and Beach environments.

MPEG Movie VX Fine mode Capture VGA (640 x 480) audio/video clips at a high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second). The maximum length of time you can shoot continuously is about 10 minutes.

Automatic Macro shooting Standard Auto Focus now covers the macro focus range, eliminating the need to manually change focus modes for close-up photography. The Macro mode has not been eliminated, and enabling it accelerates Auto Focus when shooting at point-blank range.

9-point Auto Focus Because an off-center subject can make your shot more interesting, a 9-point auto focus measures auto-focus at 9 precision points instead of 5 -- giving you greater creative freedom to compose your image.

Smart Zoom feature The Sony Smart Zoom feature intelligently "crops into" the central portion of interest in your photo, helping avoid the image degradation of other digital zooms.

Burst mode You can fire off up to one hundred shots at Approx. 0.66 second intervals (at any resolution: VGA to full resolution mode) -- a great way to capture a child's first steps or a pet's best tricks.(Approx. 1.5fps (100 shots)).

Simple setup controls A quick press of the Home button opens your user-friendly graphical interface -- and you can select functions by simply moving a cursor vertically or horizontally to the appropriate icon. Function names and the on-screen Function Guide display make it easier to learn camera setup operations.

Easy Shooting mode A simplified camera environment especially attractive to beginners or digital camera users who want to keep things simple, Easy Shooting provides easy-to-read, on-screen instructions and limits the number of camera settings to help prevent misuse of the camera while still providing excellent results.

Function Guide This beginner-friendly function helps manage various functions and settings by displaying the description of chosen functions or settings on the LCD screen. The Function Guide can also be switched off.

Optical viewfinder In addition to the LCD display, a built-in optical viewfinder lets you compose your photos in traditional rangefinder camera style, and also helps save battery power by turning off your LCD display.

15 MB internal memory Even if you forget your flash memory card, you can get the shot because 15 MB internal memory lets you capture a limited number of shots with in-camera convenience, then easily transfer your shots to a PC or optional Memory Stick Duo media.

Memory Stick Duo media convenience A built-in slot accepts optional Memory Stick Duo Media or Memory Stick PRO Duo Media -- the compact, high-capacity storage media that make it easily to upload photos to your PC and are compatible with millions of devices worldwide.

Stamina Battery Power Provides extended battery life and shooting capacity when using a fully charged Lithium Ion battery-- enough to cover a long weekend or a whole vacation.

HDTV compatibility High-resolution images can be enjoyed in all their beauty simply by connecting the camera directly to a Sony BRAVIA HDTV or other compatible HDTV3 . This provides an excellent alternative to viewing photos as prints or on a computer monitor, and is ideal for users who want to share photos in the comfort of their living room. Optional HD solutions include a Cyber-shot cradle/charger with component cable output, or component cable directly to your HDTV.

PhotoTV HD PhotoTV HD compatibility allows the camera to be connected to a PhotoTV HD-capable Sony BRAVIA HDTV via the optional HD output adaptor, for highly detailed, high-definition color images displayed in unprecedented realism and full HD quality.

16:9 High-Resolution Mode In addition to the standard 2-megapixel size, the convenient 16:9 aspect ratio shooting mode for HDTV3 display can now be shot in 5-megapixels, making it possible to obtain beautiful, high-definition prints with the same aspect ratio as HDTV3.

Wide Zoom Display To use the entire image area of the compatible HDTV screens, Wide Zoom automatically expands standard 4:3 and 3:2 images to 16:9.

Photo Music PHOTOMUSIC combines images with music to produce fun and entertaining slide shows with the following five visual effects (Simple, Basic, Nostalgic, Active and Stylish). Additionally, the number of music tracks stored in the camera memory has been doubled from four to eight, and music playback time has been extended from three to five minutes per track. More personalized slide shows are also possible by transferring music from a PC to the camera.

Picture Motion Browser Software Supplied software makes it easier to upload, organize, and search photos on your PC. When shooting photos using your camera and an optional GPS unit, the software even provides a convenient map view function that lets you sort photos by location and display their origin on a world map.

BIONZ The BIONZ image processor delivers speed and precision for optimum picture quality under a variety of conditions.

Customer Reviews

Shopped around; would buy it again; but be aware of minor issues4
Just bought this new from a local retailer. Did a lot of research online comparing this model to some of Canon's compact cameras. I'm not a photography buff so I wanted something that was small and not necessarily the "best" but would still take nice pictures. I really like the features that it includes. The 4x zoom is greater than most at this price point, and even some more expensive cameras. Seems to have a lot of neat features, like the Smart Zoom (digital zoom without pixelation), multiple auto focus points, and ability to shoot 640x480 video. The face detection is pretty cool and seems to work really well. I thought about getting the DSC-W130 with its 8MP resolution and editing features, but figured that 8MP was more than I needed and I'd rather do my photo editing on the computer.
One or two "bugs" I'm aware of:
1. If you shoot using burst mode, you'll find that you can't turn the flash back on in any mode but Easy mode. You have to reset the camera back to factory defaults to shoot using the flash again. Even knowing this I would still buy the camera, but I'm hoping that enough people would alert Sony to this error to release a firmware update to fix it. Otherwise I would have given it five stars.
2. When you plug in the camera with the USB cable the lens may open, so be sure not to leave it face down when transferring data.

Great Camera5
Got this just before a trip to Utah. Very compact, easy to use. A 4G memory stick holds about 1500 pictures. The OEM battery lasted a week and 600 pictures. Can't beat it. Also got one of those "gumby" mini tripods at Wal Mart for $10. It's about 8" long with flexible legs. Highly recommended as well.

Great product4
I love this camera. It was very easy to understand the instructions and I like the quality of the pictures.

Editorial Reviews

Manufacturer Description

The 9.1-megapixel Panasonic DMC-TZ5 packs a 28mm wide-angle, 10x optical zoom Leica DC lens in a compact design, ideal for the active photographer who needs a versatile camera. By combining a 28mm wide-angle lens, which lets you capture a wider-framed shot when compared to a traditional 35mm camera, with the TZ-Series 10x optical zoom, you're empowered to take expanded shots, both wide and far. Panasonic's Intelligent Auto technologies are also expanded, with new Intelligent Exposure and Digital Red-eye Correction.

With the addition of Intelligent Exposure and Digital Red-eye Correction, Panasonic's Advanced Intelligent Auto mode consists of seven intuitive technologies, all which are specifically designed to help make photo-taking an enjoyable and seamless process unnoticed by the consumer -- helping them to take clear photos. When in Advanced Intelligent Auto mode, the following technologies all operate automatically; no settings need to be manually changed.

Also new to the TZ5 is the Venus Engine IV, Panasonic's new high-performance image processing LSI. The Venus Engine IV produces higher-quality pictures than its predecessor, the Venus Engine III, by using a more advanced signal processing system. The new Venus Engine IV also improves noise reduction, elevates the detection accuracy and corrective effects in both Mega O.I.S. and Intelligent ISO and reduces the shutter release time lag. Both models also incorporate Intelligent LCD, which detects the lighting condition and controls the brightness level of the LCD in 11 fine steps, to offer optimal clarity in any situation, whether dark or light; indoors or outdoors. With a newly developed 460,000-dot high resolution in the TZ5's 3.0-inch LCD, photos can be easily viewed on the display, regardless of the shooting environment.

The TZ5 is also capable of recording 720p high-definition motion pictures, and because of its support of SD memory cards, is easily compatible with Panasonic Viera plasma HDTVs that have an integrated SD memory card slot, so viewing photos is simple. Also, with the newly added HD component output capability, users can also connect the TZ5 to an HDTV and watch a slideshow complete with mood-appropriate music, choosing from natural, slow, urban and swing.

Lumix DMC-TZ5A Highlights

Intelligent Exposure With this new feature, photos will no longer be under- or over-exposed. Instead, the TZ5 instantly analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark because of dim lighting, backlighting or the use of the flash. The camera will automatically adjust the brightness accordingly.

Digital Red-eye Correction This feature helps to eliminate the red-eye problem that sometimes results when taking flash shots at the night. Incorporated into the built-in flash, the camera emits a small preliminary flash before the main flash, detects red-eye and will digitally correct it.

Mega O.I.S. Gyrosensors detect hand-shake and the lens system shifts to compensate, helping to prevent hand-shake from creating a blurry image.

Intelligent ISO With Intelligent ISO, the TZ5 can determine if the photo subject is moving and change the ISO setting and shutter speed accordingly, thus giving a blur-free photo.

Intelligent Scene Selector Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions, recognizes the shooting environment and will automatically select the appropriate scene mode from: Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode. This intuitive technology, helps you use the most common scene modes that are built into the camera, but often go unused, without making any manual adjustments.

Face Detection Panasonic's Face Detection detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure settings so portraits come out clear and crisp. Detecting up to 15 faces, Panasonic's Face Detection can even track a face if the subject is moving.

Continuous AF The Continuous AF (auto focus) system maintains focus on the subject even without pressing a shutter button halfway, thus minimizing the AF time.

Customer Reviews

Disappointed3
I bought this camera for the 10x optical zoom and for the AF feature. I was disappointed in the picture lag time and it does not take good pictures in low light situations. However, the red eye feature works great and the zoom. I took the camera back, due to the bad low light pictures and the lag time.

Amazing camera!5
The Leica lens are brilliant, wonderful colors, good compensation on low light conditions, very good zoom and excellent stabilizer. Very simple to work with. Excellent buy!

Panasonic TZ45
This is a great product. It has wide-angle and 10x zoom in a small package.

Great Camera, lousy software!4
One part of the software package has to be registered. This in turns runs a small billboard in lower right hand corner that you cannot turn off. The billboard advertises the latest weekly specials, and acts like spyware. The other portion of this software package is a program that has no uninstall executable. Upon deleting this program I was warned, that other programs may not function if deleted. I think Panasonic can aford to do alot better than this... still, it's a jewel of a camera!

Great camera with good video option.4
The one great thing about this camera's video is that you can have it when you need it without carrying multiple items. It will not replace a good camcorder, but it does provide good quality video (720 HD) with ease. It is very small, and provides you not only with good video, but great photos. I have used panasonic before, and have been very pleased with the photos and also pleased with the video on most of the small digital cameras offered by them.

The colors in the photography is crisp and bright, and is very easy to use. The video is good, but seems to have trouble with the autofocus during zooming, however, it is a big plus to be able to zoom in a camera like this. I have read that if you play with the settings, you can make the focus better during video. Another big plus is the 10x digital zoom. If you are looking for a good point and shoot camera with a good video option, you should be very happy with this.

Perfect for travel5
I took this on a cruise - it was perfect. Not only did I get consistently better snapshots than those with compact cameras, but I was able to take some spectacular pictures of scenery - sunsets, coming into port, etc. Exactly as reviewed, best camera I have ever owned.

Absolutely Fantastic Camera5
Canon PowerShot SD790IS 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

I did a lot of research before purchasing this camera. I have been disappointed and frustrated by the last three or four digital cameras I purchased, and got a little wiser this time. I mostly use my cameras for vacations and snapshots, nothing earthshattering, but I have, in the past, had a lot of trouble with blurry, vague, dark pictures, except with my very large digital Kodak, which is too big to take on an upcoming trip.
I purchased a 4G highspeed sd card and an extra battery and leather case along with this camera. When I received it, I charged it, actually read the manual, then started taking lots of photos, and I am having a great time with it. Maybe this will turn me into a half way decent photographer.
My initial battery charge is lasting a very long time, (two weeks +, and it is still fully charged) and the pictures are the best I have ever taken.
I am blown away by all the things this camera will do, and how easy it is to figure out, all in a small but sturdy package.
Most of all, I am super happy with the quality of the photos, and cannot recommend this camera highly enough. I was a little concerned initially at the lack of an optical view finder, but the screen is excellent, and its brightness level is adjustable. The camera turns on and is ready to use almost instantly, and focusses quickly. Pictures turn out sharp and clear, even with the flash, the zoom works easily with a very accessible button, and there is absolutely no red eye.
I cannot give you a very technical review, I am just a regular casual user.
I am very impressed, having fun, and cannot recommend this camera highly enough, it exceeds all my expectations.

Excellent camera, I couln't be happier..!!!!5
I tried several digital cameras before, mostly Sony and Nikon and I kept felling unhappy with the shots taken, finally I decided to give Canon a try, the camera is EXCELLENT, the color quality is precise and the performance is the best I've seen. I am a Canon fan now.

SD1100 vs. SD8500: Best sidekick for the average shooter?5
I started with the SD1000 in mind but soon discovered the newly introduced SD1100 before noticing that the identically-priced SD8500 was out-selling it on Amazon by a decisive margin. Even though almost a year older than the 1100, the 8500 offers a few attractive features: 1. a 4X optical zoom lens, with an impressive range of 35mm-140mm (the 1100's is 38mm-114mm); 2. marginally faster shutter operation and less lag time between shots; 3. the ISO settings are more conveniently located (under func rather than menu) for users who prefer to make the setting manually.

The experts' reviews admittedly favor the 8500, though I'm convinced present consumers are overlooking two things: first, they were written early last year and do not reflect the reviewers' response toward a newly-made camera with merely "incremental" improvements; 2nd, the slower shutter time of the 1100 (lag between depressing the trigger and getting a response) is the trade-off for the addition of a new feature, Motion Detection technology, which acts in harmony with automatic image stabilization to recalibrate camera settings to assure the right speed and exposure when extra motion in front of the lens is detected.

I went with the 1100 for several reasons: 1. It's closer in size, weight and appearance to the ultra-compact, classic SD1000 than the "rounder" 8500 (for the record, the 1100 reintroduces the "softer" edges of the 1000's predecessor, the SD600); 2. the new Motion Detection system compensates for any additional lag time; 3. it offers an improved screen-- PureColor II (a noticeable improvement over PureColor).

In short, this is the ideal lazy person's camera, one that makes a nice complement to the good life.
